Energy saving as one of the objectives of the Best Available Technologies (BAT)

From December 6 to 7, the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (ICTIP), together with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, is holding an International conference "Kazakhstan's transition to the principles of BAT: state and prospects".

The Conference presented an analysis of the readiness of enterprises of the energy industry of Kazakhstan to switch to the principles of BAT, as well as considered international experience and recommendations. At the event, a memorandum was signed between the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects and the BAT Bureau of the Russian Federation.

As the Head of the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects Rapil Zhoshybayev explained, to achieve the established key indicators for reducing energy intensity, increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy balance, waste recycling and water quality, proposals are being developed to update the Environmental Code, which lays the foundation for green reforms.

"First, we propose to stimulate the introduction of the best available technologies by large businesses through co-financing or through other support methods. It is proposed to introduce the concepts of environmentally responsible investment or green financial instruments. Secondly, local executive bodies should also be jointly and severally responsible for the state of the environment. All implemented environmental measures should have a final calculated target effect, " said Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan Askhat Suleimenov.

During the Conference, Olzhas Alibekov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the EEDI, spoke about the development of energy saving in Kazakhstan, as one of the targets for the transition to the BAT principles, and also shared about the development of the ESCO market and the Energy Efficiency Map.
