Green investment in tourism

Today, July 18, 2019, in the village of Zeren, Akmola region, a pilot project is being presented at the Parus educational center, implemented as part of the joint UNDP-GEF and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan project “Sustainable Cities for Low-Carbon Development”.

The presentation is attended by the head of the Department for Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Improvement of the Industrial Development and Industrial Safety Committee of MIIR RK - Zh. Tokayev, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Kazakhstan - Vitaly Vremish, representatives of SMEs in tourism, banking organizations, local executive bodies, schoolchildren and others.

The children's health center "Parus" was selected as part of the work on approbation of "green" subsidies. To improve the ecology of the resort area through private investments, a coal boiler was replaced with a gas one, solar photovoltaic panels were used to illuminate the territory, LED lamps were installed, and instead of an electric water heater, a solar collector and an air heat pump were installed.

As a result of the introduction of energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies, the consumption of thermal energy decreased by 50%, and the consumption of electricity - by 75%. The money saved is now being used for other recreational needs such as renovations and the variety of entertainment options available.

Now the center has begun to accept more children than before, and has also become an excellent example for other similar recreation centers throughout the country.
