The II International Energy Saving Forum was held in Nur-Sultan

On November 29, 2019, the Second International Energy Saving Forum was held in the capital of Kazakhstan. Forum dedicated to the celebration of the International Energy Saving Day, which Kazakhstan celebrated this year on November 11.

The forum was attended by Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Amaniyaz Yerzhanov, Executive Director of the Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan-Elbasy Asset Issekeshev, Permanent Representative of the World Bank in Kazakhstan Jean-Francois Marteau, Vice-Minister of Energy Sungat Yessimkhanov, Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan Yakup Berish, General Director of the KazEnergy Association Bolat Akchulakov and Managing Director of the National Welfare Fund Samruk-Kazyna Almasadam Satkaliyev, as well as leading experts of international organizations and business structures from Europe, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

As the Vice-Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Yerzhanov Amaniyaz noted, with the development of the economy of Kazakhstan, the need for energy resources is only increasing. The main consumption of energy resources in Kazakhstan falls on the industrial sector. Thus, 67% of all electricity is accounted for by the TOP 100 large industrial enterprises.

"The Strategic Development Plan until 2025 defines the task of reducing the energy intensity of Kazakhstan's GDP by at least 25 % by 2025. At the same time, during the period of independence, the energy intensity of the country's GDP decreased by 56%, while during the same period the energy intensity of the world economy was reduced by 26%," A. Yerzhanov stressed.

According to Baurzhan Smagulov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Institute for the Development of Electric Power and Energy Conservation (EEDI), the State Energy Register is the main mechanism for achieving the national goal of reducing the energy intensity of GDP.

"In fact, the GER is a large-scale database of large consumers of the country's energy resources. To date, 11656 subjects are included in the SER, including 2019 legal entities, 2540 quasi-public sector organizations and 7098 state institutions. In total, the consumption of GER subjects is about 60% of the total consumption of the country, " Baurzhan Smagulov said.

The key issues on the Forum's agenda were the issues of energy-efficient digitalization of industry, the role of energy saving in low-carbon development and environmental protection, increasing information awareness, accessibility of "green" finance and energy efficiency of the public sector.

At the same time, it should be noted that in the solemn part of the forum, the ceremony of awarding departmental awards "For contribution to the development of the energy saving sphere" and awarding the winners of two republican competitions organized to popularize energy saving issues took place. Elmira Saparova became the winner of the Grand Prix of the children's drawing contest "Energy Saving through the eyes of children-2019". The winner of the title "The best energy-efficient budget institution" among state organizations" was the kindergarten-gymnasium No. 9 "Raduga" of the education department of the Akimat of Ekibastuz.
